Coin

Either the word "coin" or the name or nickname of a coin. Not paper money, notes or bills this time; another time.

Ally bally, Ally bally bee,
Sittin' on yer mammy's knee,
Greetin' for a wee bawbee,
Tae buy some Coulter's candy

Traditional Scottish children's song.

(I learnt it at school and I've since been told it was originally an advert jingle for Coulter's sweeties. In case you're wondering where the coin is...a bawbee was a ha'penny.)

abi, I love that song!

Here's mine:
Ringle, ringle
Coins when they jingle
Make such a lovely sound

And I cry every time that you slip in one more dime

(I've listened to James Taylor all week, because I made Holly a James Taylor playlist.)

Half a pound of tuppenny rice,
Half a pound of treacle,
That's the way the money goes,
Pop! goes the weasel.

Traditional nursery rhyme

Oh, nice, Abi! I always heard

A penny for a spool of thread
A penny for a needle

-------------------

but I did know, from a very young age, the Christmas round that ends

If you haven't got a penny, a ha'penny will do
If you haven't got a ha'penny then God bless you

"Christmas is Coming"
Not "a coin" in the U.S., but the name of a coin in a song. that's what counts. :-)

Once I built a railroad
Made it run
Made it race against time
Once I built a railroad
But now it's done
Brother, can you spare a dime?

Ten cents a dance
That's what they pay me
Gosh, how they weigh me down.

Three coins in a fountain
Each one seeking happiness
Thrown by three hopeful lovers
Which one will the fountain bless?
