"Young Mister Moon flew away in the night, with his best friend Magnus right by his side. They soared through the Milky Way counting the stars, once around Venus, and twice around Mars." Chanson Pour Les Petits Enfants ~ Jimmy Buffett
He flies through the air with the greatest of ease, The daring young man on the flying trapeze. His movements are graceful, the girls he does please, And my love he has stolen away.
This is major Tom to ground control, I'm stepping through the door And I'm floating in a most peculiar way And the stars look very different today Here am I floating 'round my tin can far above the world Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do
This old airport's got me down; It's no earthly good to me 'Cause I'm stuck here on the ground Cold and drunk as I can be. You can't hop a jet plane Like you can a freight train.
--by Gordon Lightfoot (OK, it is about NOT being able to be up in the sky--but it seemed to fit . . . .)
. . . another short was found. When asked what for, came this reply: "You were docked for the time You were up in the sky." So drill, ye tarriers, drill.
--This verse of the folksong is about a man who was "shorted" in his weekly pay. Management said this was because he was not working during the time that a dynamite explosion threw him up in the air!

Earth below us
Drifting, falling,
Floating weightless
Calling, calling home
Peter Schilling "Major Tom (Coming Home)"
Coming in from London from over the pole
Flying in a big airliner
Coming Into Los Angeles
Arlo Guthrie
Fly me to the moon,
And let me dance among the stars.
Let find out what spring is like
On Jupiter or Mars.
Off we go, into the wild blue yonder
Climbing high into the sun
U.S. Air Force song
Off in the sky
That's where I was last night
"She's My Girl" The Turtles
Up, up and away
In my beautiful balloon
(famously sung by The Fifth Dimension)
(eight words exactly!)
Buyin' me a ticket on an aeroplane;
Ain't got time to take a fast train.
Lonely days are gone, I'm a-goin' home.
My baby just wrote me a letter.
All night long their nets they threw
to the stars in the twinkling foam
then down from the skies
came the wooden shoe
bringing the fishermen home...
---Wynken, Blynken, and Nod
(a song from a poem I remember from my childhood)
The girl with kaleidoscope eyes,
Lucy in the sky with diamonds.
--The Beatles
I went skydiving I went Rocky mountain climbing
Tim McGraw
"Live Like You Were Dying"
Well, I saw the thing coming out of the sky,
It had one long horn and one big eye.
(Not sure if the Purple People Eater counts as a "person", but he is in the sky)
'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again...
Leaving on a jet plane - John Denver
Would you like to swing on a star,
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
Bing Crosby I think, maybe Frank Sinatra?
He flies through the air with the greatest of ease,
The daring young man on the flying trapeze.
His movements are graceful, the girls he does please,
And my love he has stolen away.
--Popular song from long ago, maybe 1920s?
Surfin' on a soundwave
Swingin' through the stars
Take a left at your intestine
Take your second right past Mars
Magic School Bus theme (sung by Little Richard)
This is major Tom to ground control,
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
Here am I floating 'round my tin can far above the world
Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do
(David Bowie, "Space Oddity")
Daniel you're a star, in the face of the sky...
~Daniel, Bernie/Elton :)
See how they fly like Lucy in the sky, see how they run.
I am The Walrus
The Beatles
In my ship, the Rocinante,
wheeling through the galaxies
Heading for the heart of Cygnus
Headlong into mystery
(Rush)
This old airport's got me down;
It's no earthly good to me
'Cause I'm stuck here on the ground
Cold and drunk as I can be.
You can't hop a jet plane
Like you can a freight train.
