Our house is a very, very, very fine house,
with two cats in the yard,

And the cat's in the cradle and a silver spoon;
Little boy blue and the man on the moon.
"When ya comin' home, Dad?"
"I don't know when,
But we'll get together then.
You know we'll have a good time then."

--"Cat's in the Cradle," sung by Harry Chapin, written by his wife (Sandra?)

Everybody wants to be a cat
Because the cat's the only cat
Who knows where it's at

(from "The Aristocats")

(I meant to post this one and not the previous one, which is a reapeat; can't figure out how to delete the previous one. Sorry, guys!)

I've got an old maid sister
Who's crazy over cats.
[I few lines I forget.]
She's got the neighbors talking,
And they don't think she's right,
'Cause you can hear her calling cats
Most any time of night.

--"Pussycat Rag." On a cylindrical record that plays on a Victrola that my mother had, the kind you crank up and play. My older brother has it now.

Hoosier Nan, how cool that the old Victrola is still in your family! And thanks, Sandra, for removing my "error" post.

Pangur, white Pangur
How happy we are
Alone together: scholar and cat.

Macavity's a mystery cat; he's called the Hidden Paw
For he's the master criminal who can defy the law.

Persian kitty, perfumed and fair, went out one night, to catch some air, when a tomcat--lean, lithe and stroooonngggg, dirty, filthy, scratchin'--came walkin' alonnngg!

Learned it at Girl Scout camp in the 70's--undoubtably the most risque thing we ever sang.

Pussycat, pussycat, where have you been?
I've been to London to visit the Queen.
Oh pussycat, pussycat, what did you there?
I frightened a little mouse under her chair.

--Nursery rhyme. I think I heard it sung on Captain Kangaroo.

They've got rats, rats, rats,
Big as alleycats
At the store, at the store,
At the quartermaster's store.

--Boy Scout song my brother brought back from camp and taught to me. There were only nasty things at the quartermaster's store!
