Maybe then I could learn to swim

Fish gotta swim
And birds gotta fly
I gotta love one man til I die
Can't help loving that man of mine.

My son was once afraid to swim
The water made him wince
Until I said he mustn't swim
Been swimming ever since

from "The Fantasticks"

However, the first song I thought of was Sade's "Lover's Rock." For the longest time I thought she sang "you're the one I swim to in a storm" until someone pointed out to me that I was, sadly, mistaken.

He run 'til he come to a broken-down bridge
He fell to his breast and swum, swum
He fell to his breast and swum

He swam 'til he came to the green grass growin'
And he jumped to his feet and run...

Matty Grove (another ballad)

Jenny's afraid of water
I mean she swims so well
But still
She's afraid of water
And so she won't go near the sea
Not me

(Jason Robert Brown, "I'm Not Afraid")

Sometimes she sank, sometimes she swam
Lay the bend to the bonny broom...

Binnorie, or The Twa Sisters (yet another ballad)

Nightswimming deserves a quiet night.
I'm not sure all these people understand.
