In the clearing stands a boxer
And a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminder
Of every glove that laid him down
Or cut him til he cried out
In his anger and his pain,
"I am leaving, I am leaving,"
But the fighter still remains

(Paul Simon)

You seem so far from me

Make my bed sick
Cause I'm gonna be sick
And lay me down to die

(A more humorous version of "Lord Randall," which usually goes
"Make my bed soon
For I'm sick to my heart
And I fain would lie down.")

They have slain the Earl O'Murray
And they've laid him on the green
He was the bra'est gallant
And rode at the ring
And the bonny Earl O'Murray,
He might ha' made a king

I know it as a ballad, but I think it was composed and not traditional.

I just gotta say it's ironic the song Laid doesn't contain the word "laid" :D

In pastures green he leadeth me
