Fly me to the moon
And let me play among the stars
Let me see what life is like
On Jupiter and Mars

The moon and you appear to be
So very far away from me
So here I stand
On a night in June
Reaching for the moon, and you

(Irving Berlin)

Margaret said...

My heart is taken it's not lost in space
And I don't want to see your moony moony face
I say, why on Earth do you revolve around me
Aren't you aware of the gravity

The second star to the right
Shines in the night for you
To tell you that the dreams you plan
Really can come true

(Fain/Cahn)

Margaret said...

Would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a mule

Sandra Dodd said...

In there we were all in one place
A generation lost in space

"American Pie"

Margaret said...

Oh give me land, lots of land, under starry skies above
Don't fence me in

(A song about wanting space here on earth, not about outer space... but there is a token star reference if space on earth isn't enough)

Clarissa said...

Up above the world so high
Like a diamond in the sky

Sandra Dodd said...

It's about time
It's about space
It's about people in a crazy place

Tell me
did you sail across the sun
did you make it to the milky way to see the lights all faded

Got no butler, got no maid
Still, I think I've been overpaid
I got the sun in the morning and the moon at night

When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you

(Harline/Washington, from "Pinocchio")

I knew eight words, but not in a row, so I looked up the first verse of this. It was added to the Baptist Hymnal a while back. It's a terrible song.

God of earth and outer space,
God of love and God of grace,
Bless the astronauts who fly
As they soar beyond the sky.

God who flung the stars in space,
God who set the sun ablaze;
Fling the spacecraft through the air,
Let man know your presence there.

The tune is here

Margaret said...

It's a great big universe
And we're all really puny
We're just tiny little specks
About the size of Mickey Roony

Animaniacs (and I think the words are a bit off, but close)

Margaret said...

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at 900 miles an hour
That's orbiting at [??] miles a second, so it's reckoned,
Round a sun that is the source of all our power

Monty Python, Galaxy song

Laura said...

Now young Mister Moon flew away in the night
With his best friend Magnus right by his side
They soared through the Milky Way
counting the stars
Once around Venus and twice around Mars

"Chanson Pour les Petites Enfants"

Cap'n Franko said...

Hey, Mr. Spaceman,
Won't you please take me along?
I won't do anything wrong.
Hey, Mr. Spaceman,
Won't you please take me along for a ride?

The Byrds - Hey! Mr. Spaceman

Clarissa said...

I wanted to be a spaceman
I wanted to be it so bad
But now that I am a spaceman
I'd rather be back on the pad

Hey mother earth
Won't 'cha bring me back down
Safely to the sea
But 'round and around and around and around
Is just a lot of lunacy

"Spaceman," Harry Nilsson

A crazy planet full of crazy people
Is somersaulting all around the sky
And every time it turns another somersault
Another day goes by

he'd like to come and meet us but he thinks he'd blow our minds.

But to my surprise
They climbed aboard their star ship

I'm building a spaceship in my backyard,
It's gonna go fast and it's gonna go far.

I'm building a spaceship in my backyard.

You can stop and stare
But there's no one there
On the moon.

--I had a book and a 45 rpm record about the moon and the possibility of space exploration, circa 1964 (I am so OLD). This is from one of the songs on it.
